Welcome back in 2013

Hello again peeps
I knew that I had created a Blog a LONG time ago...when I was a student at UM for a tech class. I was surprised that I found it and was shocked that it was created in 2007! Geesh! Well well well, welcome back to 2013. Ha ha
As I was re-exploring and re-inventing this blog for this new assignment, I was reminded of how much I liked it before. Looks like I abandoned it when that class was over. Looks like I re-discovered it for another tech class. How funny.
That is about it on my history of blogging...it was only done for some experience for a tech class. However, now that some time has passed and I am working full-time in a library, I do think I may create a blog for my library. It would be a great way to share info with my other staff members at the school, especially alerting them to new books and professional materials I have in the library. I always want to share that info at staff meetings, and I never get a chance. Staff members are non-responsive or receptive to my emails trying to update them on library materials and info.
With that being said, I would try a blog on the school website to share with parents and others. I started a website for the school library last year, and it is just okay. I need to make it better. I started putting cool links into it for parents and students...but I think I could make that part look better and be more interesting with a blog. It would be fun to put some other educational tools and put some library games on there too.
Well, until next time friends. Peace out.

With blogging or any tech tools, I think you just have to keep trying until you find that thing that works for your school and that draws people in -- usually some misses before you make a hit.

With tech tools, I think you do have to try some stuff before you find that thing that works. Misses can be frustrating, but you'll make a hit sooner or later.

Hi Caitlin,

I like the way your blog looks; bright and cheery and the Muppets picture is great.

Are you getting better feedback from staff since you brought up your library blog?

I know from experience and some staff have little interest in the library and its activities, unfortunately.

I think blogs are a great way to communicate.

I agree with Tim--your blog is bright and inviting. I would try to attach the blog to the school website and see if that doesn't get more action than the website. At least with the blog you could invite comments from visitors and maybe allow them to contact you via email through the blog. I think it would be fun to have students answer questions about books they have read and recommend books to their peers as well. There are so many ways that we could utilize this technology, and getting the word out to our patrons so that they access it may be the most difficult.
