Internet safety

The other day (Sept 19th) we had a guest speaker about internet safety, and I've got to say, I learned a lot! I was very impressed with our guest speaker Russ. He was very knowledgeable and easy to understand, and some of the things he discussed I knew, while others kind of freaked me out! I don't know how safe I feel about the social networking now, or sharing wireless connections with strangers! I feel like Russ's speech made me much more savvy about internet safety, thank you so much for bringing him in Mary!

Caitlin,

I'm glad that you enjoyed the presentation on Internet Safety and learned some new/useful information.

One thing I learned about was proxy servers. I had no idea that these things existed, and that students could (and do!) use them to bypass their school's filtering system.

Hey Caitlin!

Just be wary of what you post on the internet. Remember, what you put up there cannot be easily erased. I would also start cleaning up your facebook or myspace accounts. You wouldn't want them to come and haunt you!

i agree, i was really surprised at how easy it was to find people and learn a lot of things about them.

i am weary about putting info on my blog because i do not know how to control who sees it. i only use it for class assignments.

Hey Caitlin!

I totally agree with you. Internet safety is definitely important to keep in mind as an educator. Listening to our guest speaker talk about the dangers of the world-wide web freaked me out as well.

FYI....don't let your kids surf the web unattended!!! :)
